I strongly oppose the new legislation that undermines the protection for endangered wildlife, ecosystems and rights of Indigenous communities. The proposed bill neglects environmental challenges that we are already witnessing from our daily lives, disregarding science-based conservation efforts and failing to meaningfully consult with Indigenous communities. This violates both Canadian law and international standards that we should be advocating for, as a nation. Instead, the government is reacting rather than planning, to account for the housing shortage that Ontario is currently facing, hoping that this bring economical value to the province. Instead, if this legislation is passed, the provincial government is disregarding the legal responsibility that we have placed in the past to protect endangered species, Indigenous communities, and the scientists who are dedicating their lives, both for our livelihood, as well as the endangered species living conditions, to advocate the importance of protecting these ecosystems for the well being of the province.
