This proposal would do great harm to endangered and all species. This will affect our biodiversity and our health and wellbeing. This is because of the proposal will:
Remove all effective protections for Ontario species at risk and their habitats
Give the government free authority to remove any species from the endangered species list
Remove the requirements to develop recovery strategies and management plans for the restoration of species at risk and thier habitats
Remove the current Species At Risk advisory committee, and prevent the ability to create new advisory committees
Remove all environmental protection for aquatic life and migratory birds
Prevent anyone with a mandate to protect the environment from involvement in proposed Special Economic Zone decisions
Ensure no legal action can be taken against the government for decision-making with respect to SEZs, entirely exempting them from accountability and critique
Rural and Northern communities will be hit hardest.
