To even suggest that an environmental assessment is not needed, would also suggest that York one does not plan on keeping to the rules. An environmental assessment is absolutely needed to reopen this vacant land, that has been licensed as a dump in the 70s. Number1 It is too close to the town. The proposed dump is within a half a kilometre of the Dresden sign. It is 3/4 a kilometre from the high school. An environmental assessment would quantify how far would be safe. Number2 Molly‘s Creek drains from the property and feeds into the Sydenham River. The Sydenham river is home to several endangered species, and species only in this watershed. An environmental assessment could quantify how much effluent from proposed settling ponds would be safe. Number3 the roadways that lead into this area are not built for the kind of traffic York one proposes. An environmental assessment could determine whether these roadways will accept the extra traffic. Please reinstate the environmental assessment required, as land use has changed.
