I am commenting on the proposed amendments to the Rebuilding Ontario Place Act, 2023

I am not even going to get started about the misinformation surrounding the Therme deal, and the lies told to the public surrounding Therme's financial backing, and experience. That is disgusting, and I am so ashamed of the Ontario Government.

But what I am concerned and opposed to is Schedule 8 of the Project Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, 2025 exempting EVERY PROJECT tied to the Ontario place redevelopment (and ANY enterprise or activity that furthers the Ontario Place Redevelopment Project that is not at the Ontario Place site) from Part II of the Environmental Bill of Rights, 1993.

Part II of the Environmental Bill of Rights specifically outlines "minimum levels of public participation that must be met before the Government of Ontario makes decisions on certain kinds of environmentally significant proposals for policies, Acts, regulations and instruments." Schedule 8 will completely eliminate public participation, as well as elimination informing the public about environmentally significant activities with regard to Ontario Place.

This proposed amendment is to benefit PRIVATE SECTOR initiatives, and it is NOT IN THE PUBLIC interest nor the interest of our environment. I don't know if the Ontario government has been reading what scientists are worried about (they should be)- but if we as a province and a country cannot come together to protect our environment there will be nothing left for Ontario and the Doug Ford government to exploit. We NEED environmental protections, guidelines and initiatives.

Signing bills in private to destroy the environment, local bird sanctuaries, fish breeding grounds for the benefit of the private sector is despicable. We are going to lose our fresh drinking water, and our ability to live in harmony with the environment at a far far accelerated rate at the hands of the Ontario government.

I am calling on the Government of Ontario to remove Schedule 8 of the new Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, 2025.

Ontario will not be protected by Unleashing anything.
