Animals continue to lose their habitats for development purposes. These species protections need to be in place so that we can provide healthy, connected ecosystems where these animals are living. It is hugely difficult to return habitat conditions back after they have been destroyed, these rare species which many people love will forever be erased from these habitats if development is allowed without oversight. The humans who live in these areas also find great benefit from being able to see and hear these animals in the areas that they live, to remove them decreases the enjoyment and connection to nature that many people need. Southwestern Ontario has already developed most of its green spaces (Areas such as Windsor having less then 10% tree cover). The ESA is in place to protect what is left of healthy ecosystems that provide ecosystem functions that are able to support rare species. The province must be capable enough to find solutions that balance the need for housing and development with the safety of dwindling rare species populations and their habitats without removing key legislation that protects them.
