While I believe it is important to regularly review legislation to remove redundancies, esnure appropriate regulatory flexibilities, and clarify definitions, I am concerned about several changes proposed for the Endagered Species Act. I believe some of these changes will have detrimental impact on Ontario's fragile, irreplaceable ecosystems. I do not believe the government should have unilateral discretion to remove species from the protected list, compromising the work and expertise of the COSSARO. I am also concerned about the allowances for actors to carry out activities that are harmful to protected species immediately after registration, rather than waiting for the necessary permit.
