Dear minister of Environment

I am writing to strongly oppose Bill 5: the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act and its dangerous proposals, including the creation of Special Economic Zones, the weakening of Ontario’s endangered species protections, and the exemption of the Dresden Landfill Dump from an environmental review.
This project will end up being 500 METERS from the town of Dresden since York1 has already purchased land up to the town line.

Bill 5 gives your government extreme new powers to ignore laws that protect the environment, public health, and Indigenous rights — without public consultation or accountability. This is unacceptable.!!!!!!!

The Special Economic Zones Act (Schedule 9) would grant unprecedented powers to the Provincial Cabinet and could allow corporations or individuals to avoid any laws and by-laws in entire areas of Ontario. There are no limits, no rules, and no public input. This is not how democracy works. !! We did not reelect this government to take away our protections for their donors to eviscerate the environment or our historical town of Dresden!!

The new Species Conservation Act (Schedules 2 & 10) would strip away real protections for at-risk species and their habitats. Science and recovery planning are being replaced by an empty process that can’t protect our wildlife.

The exemption for the Dresden Landfill Mega Dump (Schedule 3) removes the need for a full environmental assessment — ignoring the serious risks to climate-critical peatlands and Indigenous territory. This goes against Canada’s commitments to reconciliation and climate action.

Ontario should not give up vital environmental protections or give the Provincial Cabinet unlimited power. This won’t solve the trade war, or stimulate economic growth. It will only bring us closer to the chaos we’ve seen in the United States. It would also severely undermine Indigenous rights of Walpole Island and the Southwestern board of chiefs .

Ontarians deserve better. I urge you to withdraw Bill 5 immediately.
This proposal to but a landfill in Dresden is already too close and should not be allowed to proceed
An environmental assessment would prove that !
Bill 197 should also be able to put a stop to this insane proposal !!!

York1 has already been convicted of being unsafe and filing false reports which they were charged and convicted for The convictions are for including false or misleading information in a document submitted to the ministry.

And charges for -- York1 Millwick Transfer Limited failed, as an employer, to ensure that the measures and procedures prescribed by section 56 of Ontario Regulation 851 (Industrial Establishments) were carried out in the workplace, contrary to section 25(1)(c) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
