We are settlers on this land. For the sake of the treaties which have already been violated, for the sake of future generations having hope, for the STABILITY of the natural systems which have existed for tens of thousands of years — systems, which we depend on for health and prosperity — Bill 5 must not be passed. Indigenous rights-holders’ voices and Knowledge Systems are necessary for Ethical Space to be upheld. Bill 5 is shortsighted, destructive, invalidating of science and the voices of leading experts in scientific communities (concerning the environment), and invalidating of the checks and balances that we NEED, now more than ever.
Economic progress and growth is not — nor has it ever been — dependent on the detriment of environmental safeguards and protections, and Indigenous rights.
