This legislation would have dire consequences for Ontarios wildlife and, undoubtedly in time, First Nations and rural communities who are so disproportionately affected by extractive industry and extreme development. It is dishonest to present our existing, critical environmental protections as a detriment to the economy. The proposed species conservation act is made in bad faith, and by removing habitat protections, and blocking the requirements for species recovery programs, it functionally removes all effective protections for species at risk in Ontario. It can not be truthfully called an environmental protection policy. If passed we will not only see extripations of our existing species at risk, but we will see the decline and vanishment of the other species that share their habitats. This is not just about the protection of species at risk, but also about keeping the common species common, preventing ecosystem collapse, and defending the land and water from increased pollutants that harm human health as well. we are a part of the ecosystem, and dismissing this reality is reckless, irresponsible, greedy, and disgusting.

Fifteen species have already been driven to extinction within Ontario. This legislation will only serve to rapidly increase that number.
