The proposed changes to the Ontario Endangered Species Act deeply concern me as they risk undermining crucial protections for our province's vulnerable species. The existing Act provides essential safeguards for Ontario's biodiversity, which is already under significant pressure from habitat loss, climate change, and development.
These amendments appear to prioritize economic interests over environmental stewardship by weakening protection mechanisms that have been scientifically established as necessary. Our natural ecosystems depend on biodiversity to maintain resilience, and each species plays a vital role in our environment.
