To the Government of Ontario,

I am writing to strongly oppose the proposed elimination or weakening of the Endangered Species Act. This legislation is one of the few meaningful protections Ontario has in place to safeguard its most vulnerable species and the fragile ecosystems they depend on.

Eliminating the ESA is a dangerous step backwards. It prioritizes short-term development over long-term environmental responsibility, and sends a clear message: that profit outweighs protection, and convenience outweighs conservation. It puts species already on the brink in even greater danger — a risk we cannot afford to take.

We are in the midst of a global biodiversity crisis. The role of government should be to strengthen protections, not erase them. Ontario has a moral and ecological responsibility to preserve the land, water, and wildlife that define this province. Once these species are gone, they are gone forever.

I urge you in the strongest possible terms: do not move forward with this dismantling. Uphold the Endangered Species Act. Strengthen enforcement. Invest in real, science-based environmental stewardship.

The people of Ontario are watching. And many of us will not stay silent as the natural heritage of this province is put at risk.

Sincerely,
Patti B
