I’m writing to express deep frustration with the provincial government’s decision to fast-track the proposed landfill in Dresden — and to remove the environmental assessment that was promised to the community.
This proposed landfill dump will be right on this towns line and is TOO close.

During the recent by-election and general election in Lambton–Kent–Middlesex, MPP Steve Pinsonneault committed to a full environmental assessment of the York1 landfill project. That promise mattered.

Residents were clear about their concerns — including threats to Molly’s Creek and the Sydenham River, one of the most biodiverse freshwater ecosystems in Canada and home to over 20 species at risk, including the Salamander Mussel.

The proposed site would border sensitive wetlands, sit on a floodplain, and would accept up to 500 tonnes of asbestos waste daily. Leachate runoff from the landfill could contaminate both groundwater and surrounding waterways, and the decomposition of organic waste would release methane — a greenhouse gas far more potent than carbon dioxide — accelerating the climate crisis.

Now, legislation that will cut the environmental assessment has been introduced. Without consultation. Without transparency. And without regard for the environmental consequences or the community and the people who live here.

This backtracking sends a clear message that political convenience matters more than public trust or environmental responsibility. This isn’t just a local issue. It’s a test of whether our provincial government will stand by its word.

That is why I urge you to reverse this decision, and to uphold the commitment to a full, transparent environmental assessment. Our community deserves that respect.

Please do not revoke the Dresden environmental assessment that was ordered because no politician is a scientist and to prove this is not the place to put a dump / landfill, you need to do a full E.A that will be done by specialist.
This government is jeopardizing the health of a community of 2700 tax payers who reelected this government in the promises they made to this community.
