I strongly oppose Bill 5. This bill scraps some of the most important steps in managing endangered species. By removing the “long process to get permits” you are skipping necessary steps to protect the species. This bill does not put species first. Developing recovery strategies are crucial, management plans are incredibly necessary. Government response statements, and reviews of progress from legislation are necessary to keep everyone accountable for the protection and maintenance of vulnerable species. Bill 5 aims to remove the most crucial elements that prioritize species in order of “efficiency.” The purpose of protecting nature is not for efficiency.
