Chatham-Kent already hosts one of the province’s largest landfills—the Ridge Landfill—and our municipality is already doing more than its fair share in managing Ontario’s waste. It is deeply unfair for the province to target Dresden as the site of yet another massive waste facility while many other Ontario municipalities have no such burden. Bypassing the Environmental Assessment process through Bill 5 would allow this duplication without any study of regional equity, cumulative environmental effects, or long-term sustainability. Our town should not be punished for already carrying the weight of waste infrastructure.
