This is materially and optically a horrible move by the government that I do not support. I have a number of concerns: 1. What is especially telling is the lack of science behind this proposal. Where is the evidence that this proposal will actually protect endangered species. 2. I am also concerned with the proposal for the Premiere to override provincial, municipal laws and Indigenous consultation in special economic zones. This autocratic and anti democratic in the way it centralizes power with respect to the environmental commons. 3. Further, the voluntary aspects of endangered species protection promoted in these amendments are weak and, as the government knows, will be ineffective (and it’s ironic that this government thinks a voluntary program in this regard is a good thing, especially after it has axed other voluntary environmental programs).
