I am against this proposal to make interim changes to the Endangered Species Act as it appears to aim to shift the framework for habitat and endangered species protections toward one that prioritizes permitting and development timeline for projects that ostensibly involve changes in land-use pertinent to the habitats and areas where protections and conservation are needed. Effectively gutting the ESA is NOT in line with Canada's or the province of Ontario's commitments to meeting climate goals, as one of the primary factors behind human-accelerated climate change are in fact changes in land-use. Habitats and species conservation should be prioritized, and the first focus - there's practically no good-faith in pushing ahead permitting and development procedures without a species/habitat/conservation-first approach. The risks to further damage and/or endanger species and habitats is too great to assume for the benefit of economic productivity, as the kind of side-effects and potential damages are rarely if ever reversed or reversible.
