With this bill, the repeal of the Endangered Species act will narrow the definition of a critical habitat, thus leaving numerous endangered species at risk without adequate protection. Creating "economic zones" will allow exploitation of the environment by bypassing regulations and facilitating expedited destruction without proper assessment. This bill also serves to streamline the approval process for development projects by undermining and disregarding the rights of Indigenous communities to consult the developers in the process. We demand that this bill is immediately withdrawn and reconsidered. All development projects must undergo environmental evaluations. We must continue the commitment to consult with Indigenous communities to ensure their rights and voices are included in development decisions. Ontario's commitment to our environment and the rights of its Indigenous Peoples must not be compromised. Sustainable development must be prioritized in order to protect our province's rich and vulnerable biodiversity and cultural heritage.
