This bill does not need to be passed. There are already more than enough empty lots, available land, and abandoned buildings in our cities that could be revitalized—without encroaching on land already designated for things like green space or bike paths.
I live in London, Ontario, and I see these unused spaces all the time. I can’t imagine our city is any different from others across the province. We do have enough land—we just need to use what we already have more wisely.
This bill feels less like smart planning and more like an excuse to give developers access to prime land under the guise of necessity. Let’s focus on making better use of the resources and land we’ve got before opening up protected or purpose-designated areas.
