I am extremely upset that once again the Ford government is trying to ram through destructive changes to environmental protections in order to facilitate developer's wishes. It is undemocratic, short-sighted and will cause irreparable damage to many species at risk. Environmental policies should be written by scientists, by experts (not populists) and with consideration of the future, not what is most expedient now. Ontario is a much less democratic place than it used to be, and those of us who stay abreast of the science of climate change, biodiversity loss, and the importance of nature to the economy, mental health and a sustainable future are not listened to by this government. In fact this government seems to have nothing but contempt for indigenous viewpoint and rights. I am asking that Bill 5 be withdrawn immediately. The legacy of this government will be how much they destroyed, not how much they built.
