I am concerned this legislation attempts to bypass Indigenous rights will only end up in protracted court battles. Better to do the consultations. No area should be without environmental assessment. Endangered species protection isn't about being nice to plants and animals. It is about long term ecosystem health and ultimately, our survival. All decisions should be open to the public. Every time a minister decides to ignore scientific evidence and advice that should be immediately made public.
Short term political decisions often seem right at the time but actually create greater problems in the longer term. Clarity and unnecessary duplication are worthy goals but this "throws the baby out with the bathwater".
