I strongly oppose Bill 5: the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act and its dangerous proposals, including the creation of Special Economic Zones, the weakening of Ontario’s endangered species protections, and the exemption of the Eagle’s Nest mine from an environmental review.
It ends the Endangered Species Act and replaces it with a weaker version with hardly any habitat protection. And it replaces the permit process with a simple website registration! Who is going to be monitoring this so that animals aren’t dying and being displaced, and habitats aren’t being destroyed, just for the sake of making a few developers even richer? Please don’t tell me that you don't care.
QUOTE from https://ero.ontario.ca/notice/025-0380: “almost all activities that currently require a permit before proceeding are anticipated to instead require registration. … eliminates the step of waiting for the ministry to review and approve permits.”
So now there’s NO REVIEW?!?
QUOTE from https://ero.ontario.ca/notice/025-0380: "the revised definition of habitat will be included and harassment of species will not be an activity that requires registration or a permit.”
Seriously? HARASSMENT of a species is now ok for the sake of money?
Why is this government even proposing Bill 5 when it removes protection for wildlife and their habitat? How can any decent person turn a blind eye to the irreparable damage this will cause in the name of profit?
