I am writing to strongly oppose the proposed exemptions to the Environmental Bill of Rights that would eliminate Ontarians' right to be notified about or provide input on any permits related to the Ontario Place project. The Environmental Bill of Rights is meant to safeguard Ontario’s environment for future generations. In the case of Ontario Place, thousands of Ontarians have voiced thoughtful concerns about protecting this delicate waterfront ecosystem. They have offered insightful feedback and practical alternatives to the government’s current plan. Ignoring these voices not only strips citizens of their rights but also denies the government valuable community insight. This proposal does not serve the public interest; it threatens the future of a vital public space and appears to prioritize the interests of private, foreign entities. At a time when Ontario and the world face serious climate and biodiversity challenges, this is yet another troubling erosion of environmental protection and public participation.
