Have these proposed changes gone through full community consultation?
It does not appear these changes are made with the full consultation of the public and the individual regions or communities directly impacted.
Particularly for Ontario where many of the ecologically sensitive regions exist in pockets between urban, suburban and rural communities, it is important to determine the long term impact of potential land development.
For example, increased risk of severe flooding and poor water drainage resulting from the development of wetlands and marshes that make up a large portion of Ontario's physical landscape. This has become a major concern for Ontario's who must face these risks in their localities, and will have to deal with the consequences, such as property damage, increased insurance costs and decreased land values.
For changes to existing legislation, it is necessary as part of upholding public trust and ensuring actions taken are proven to be made for public benefit.
I do not see sufficient documentation or support to indicate that these changes will offer current and future benefit to Ontarions.
Until sufficient proof can be provided by the Premier, MPPs or other relevant legislators, these changes should not be made to existing legislation.
