Once a species is eliminated it is gone forever. No developer can be entrusted to take time to identify species at risk, let alone make allowance for them. The reputation of this government in safeguarding the environment is soiled, to say the least, witness the attempted erosion of the green belt, the overnight destruction of more than 800 trees within the city limits to build a dubious health centre and the attempt to remove cycle lanes from the city streets. This is another step to advance business at the cost of the environment and should be stopped for the sake of us, our children and our children’s children.
