More than ever before as ecological degradation is increasing across Ontario, Canada and indeed the whole world, we need greater protections for Ontario's biodiversity, land, water, health, and future.
Why would we want a bill, such as Bill 5, that would silence our voices, marginalize science, and erase decades of environmental progress that many Ontarians have fought hard to achieve? Why undo our efforts?
I very strongly urge the Ontario government to withdraw Bill 5 in its entirety. Bill 5 is a step backwards. The provincial government should instead work with environmental experts, Indigenous leaders and the public to strengthen and not weaken or dismantle our systems of environmental protections.
We all need to work together to make environmental protections stronger because making them weaker will make everything we depend upon increasingly less healthy, which can only serve to affect the health and well-being of Ontarians.
