I am writing to express my strong opposition to Bill 5, the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, 2025. While economic growth is important, this bill takes a short-sighted approach by weakening environmental protections, repealing the Endangered Species Act, and enabling development in “special economic zones” without adequate oversight. It also fails to respect the rights of Indigenous communities and the significance of their land and stewardship. Ontario’s economy should not be advanced at the expense of ecosystems, biodiversity, or Indigenous sovereignty. I urge you to stop Bill 5 and instead prioritize responsible, sustainable development that protects our environment and honours our collective responsibilities to the land and future generations.
