Dear Premier Ford,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to **Bill 5: Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, 2025**. This proposed legislation poses significant risks to Ontario's rich biodiversity and undermines decades of environmental protection efforts.
The repeal of the **Endangered Species Act** and its replacement with the **Species Conservation Act, 2025** raises concerns about the weakening of safeguards for at-risk species. Furthermore, the introduction of "special economic zones" where developers and resource companies might be exempt from provincial regulations threatens to prioritize short-term economic gains over long-term environmental sustainability .([Ontario Nature][2])
Protecting our natural heritage is not only an environmental imperative but also essential for the well-being of future generations. I urge you to reconsider this legislation and prioritize comprehensive environmental assessments and genuine public consultations before making such impactful decisions.
Sincerely,
Jessica
