This proposal says it seeks to make the process of building housing, infrastructure, and transit lines easier and less complex. What this proposal seems to really aim to do, however, is remove protections for the environment, wildlife, and Indigenous rights. It is a plan to make developers (and friends of Ford) richer, to remove protections so they can bulldoze over essential ecosystems without scrutiny. If the goal was really to improve housing, transit, and other infrastructure, then Doug Ford and his team would be looking at creating better rent control, lowering prices on housing, and insentivising cities to put money into transit instead of the pockets of those at the top of the transit commissions. This proposal is not only disingenuous but poses great danger to Ontario, both its people and its land.
