I'm deeply concerned about the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act and the creation of the new Species Conservation Act. While I understand the need to streamline processes, allowing projects to proceed with just registration, without prior approval risks putting already vulnerable species in greater danger. Removing critical protections like the current definition of “habitat” and eliminating recovery planning sends the wrong message: that economic development comes before ecological responsibility. Ontario should be strengthening protections for species at risk, not weakening them in the name of convenience. We can have responsible development and strong environmental safeguards. Please reconsider this approach.
