Dear Premier Ford and Members of the Ontario Government,
I am writing to express my deep concern and strong opposition to the proposed changes under Bill 5, which aim to weaken the current approach to the protection and conservation of species at risk in Ontario.
While streamlining processes for infrastructure is important, doing so at the expense of environmental safeguards is shortsighted and harmful. Labeling species protection as a source of “unnecessary delays” ignores the critical role that biodiversity and healthy ecosystems play in sustaining our environment, our economy, and our quality of life.
Ontario has a responsibility to future generations. Gutting environmental protections to fast-track development—without adequate public consultation or scientific oversight—risks irreversible damage to wildlife, natural habitats, and our province’s global environmental leadership.
I urge you to reconsider this proposal and commit to a balanced approach that does not sacrifice our environment for short-term development goals. We need smart growth that respects both people and the planet.
Sincerely,
A concerned Ontario resident
