Ontario Bill 5 and the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act, 2007, along with the Species Conservation Act, 2025, represent a dangerous rollback of critical environmental protections. Weakening habitat safeguards and shifting focus away from science-based recovery strategies will accelerate biodiversity loss and threaten ecosystems already under stress. Conservation should prioritize the survival and recovery of species—not short-term economic interests. Ontario must uphold its responsibility to protect endangered species and their habitats, not dilute it under the guise of modernization.
I oppose Bill 5. I want strong environmental protections. I oppose short cuts for industry.
