I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed interim changes to the Endangered Species Act, 2007, as well as the proposed Species Conservation Act, 2025.
These changes threaten to significantly weaken the protections currently in place for Ontario’s most vulnerable species and their habitats. By shifting focus away from science-based decision-making and enabling greater industrial development in sensitive areas, these proposals undermine decades of conservation progress. Our ecosystems are already under immense pressure from climate change and habitat loss—now is the time to strengthen, not dilute, our commitment to biodiversity.
I urge you to uphold the integrity of the Endangered Species Act, 2007 and reject any new legislation that puts economic interests ahead of ecological responsibility. Protecting endangered species is not just a legal obligation—it is a moral one.
