Totally oppose this bill. Industry doesn't comply with existing environmental legislation. Stricter regulations and enforcement are required for Endangered Species Act.
The government should not be able to alter the species at risk list on a whim. Professional scientists, at arms length from the government, should control the list. Species are at risk today because of careless and reckless development so corporations can make a quick profit.
Thoughtful studies and mitigation strategies should be the bare minimum requirements prior to development project. The emergency for speedy development is non existent! For the sake of future generations and the threatened Species about to have their habitat destroyed, Ontario needs stricter regulations and enforcement.
Tough to comment on "regulations will be made". This is akin to appointing the fox to guard the henhouse.
Under no circumstances should a developer be allowed to "file a report" and be shovel ready the next second. The damage can be irreparable. Evaluation and permitting delays can be minimized by hiring and training more staff at MECP.
I oppose this bill as written.
