I oppose Bill 5, the Unleashing Ontario’s Economy Act, 2024. While economic growth is important, this bill prioritizes deregulation at the expense of environmental protection, public consultation, and Indigenous rights. Weakening environmental oversight and fast-tracking development without proper safeguards will lead to long-term ecological damage, increased flood risks, and the loss of irreplaceable natural heritage.
True economic prosperity must be sustainable and inclusive. Bill 5 takes Ontario in the wrong direction by dismantling safeguards designed to ensure responsible growth. I urge the government to withdraw this bill and commit to policies that balance development with environmental and community well-being.
