I strongly oppose this bill. While my main concern is the preservation of green spaces crucial to the larger ecosystems of Ontario and the animals in those habitats, I have practical concerns about what would be built where and why. When unregulated developers will often build on flood plains as they are open and relatively flat, but in doing so block important drainage and collection points and causing serious risk of wide spread flooding. Environmental surveys are a crucial step in planning a build because they evaluate the risk of flooding, landslides, and washout. Builders are all too happy to skip this step in the name of getting paid as evaluating sites might mean delays on breaking ground or having to rework plans to fit a new plot. There are entire neighbourhoods in the GTA facing this problem, where careless developers don't examine their build site and sell these houses to buyers who have no way of knowing they will be living on a flood plain, and who will have to shoulder the financial strain to either repair or leave.
