Doug Ford’s proposed interim changes to the Endangered Species Act, 2007 and the new Species Conservation Act, 2025 weaken vital protections for Ontario’s most at-risk wildlife. By prioritizing development and resource extraction over science-based conservation, these changes open the door to habitat destruction and undermine the credibility of recovery efforts. Conservation should not be optional — especially when irreversible damage to biodiversity is at stake.
