Hi there,
As our country faces immense uncertainty and instability, Ontario leaders have been those to look up to across the country. It is shocking and disappointing to see Bill 5 being created with the intention of tearing down something Canada is known for, its wildlife, environment, and natural riches. As someone working in Gold and Copper mining, I understand that development is necessary, but only entirely successful if our environments are being nurtured.
The species at risk act is a fundamental pillar of protection for flora and fauna who cannot speak up. By altering its authority, you show that once again, money is more important that the well-being of the earth that gives us life. Once these changes to the land occur they can never be undone.
Bill 5 sets a terrible example for the rest of our country and beyond, ensuring others see that profit continues to grip our leaders without concern for the absolutely essential natural beings already threatened by past developments. Bill 5 allows more unscrupulous actions to take place surely pushing its own limits to achieve larger profit margins while whipping out sensitive life.
I admire your courage and will to continue growing Ontario's economy through energy developments, but you must reconsider breaking vital acts to achieve this goal.
Thank you,
A concerned citizen.
