I oppose Bill 5. Ontario needs stronger protections for endangered species, not weaker ones. No projects or zones should be exempt from environmental consultation as that would defeat the purpose of environmental protection laws. Finally, I oppose the proposal to reduce public consultation and erode indigenous rights to consultation, which is the province’s legal responsibility. In a time of environmental crisis, this bill is shortsighted. Clean water, air and biodiversity are worth more than any short term economic benefit to private corporations.
