Ontario needs to scrap this bill and go back to the drawing board. We need more environmental protections around our natural resources, not less. We need stronger regulations around industry, not less—we have all seen the effects of uninhibited corporate greed. Don't do this to us, to our children. Ontario is positioned to become a huge global science hub over the next 50 years. Bill 5 would surely end any chance of our province becoming a leader in anything other than the province with the weakest middle class.
The Ontario PCs need to collaborate and partner with Indigenous groups in Ontario and across Canada to ensure ethical stewardship of our shared land is lasting. Creating lawless zones is clearly a breach of trust (and likely treaty law) between government, Indigenous groups, and Ontarians who understand the long term value of our natural landscape, and not just the sort term gain that selling off our land would provide to a wealthy few.
