I believe this proposal to be harmful to both public and economic health as an environmental sciences student. First of all, the inclusion of indigenous and local peoples is essential to ensure the practice of mining is not harmful to individuals, and is important to consider when choosing environmental practices. The inclusion of these people can help mitigate potential harm done to the environment and economy by providing different viewpoints and observations which may not have been previously considered, and can also benefit the economy creating job opportunities for these individuals. Indigenous and local peoples are also the people most affected by environmental harm, such as climate change and land-use change, negatively affecting their way of living and their resources. There is also a cultural aspect to the potential harm this proposal could do. Canadians love our environment, we treasure it in our culture, and we don't want to see our beautiful land changed. Take, for example, the green energy and economy act, where many people felt that the windfarms created where not as beautiful as the land which came before; with the new technology not being as exciting. Therefore, I do not believe this bill is seeking to benefit Canadians, through environmental, economic, and cultural means.
