Hello everyone,

I am extremely concerned about the alleged inadequacy of Bill 5-related consultations. In fact, I am not aware of any in‑person open house or municipal‑level forums in affected municipalities. There are concerns that everyday residents may never hear about or fully understand the changes, typically presented in complicated/legalistic language.

Just to contextualize: "Following the 2022 general election, Premier Doug Ford directed the Housing Minister to ‘complete work to codify processes for swaps, expansions, contractions and policy updates for the Greenbelt,’” an Auditor General said in a report.

The report also alleged that "the process was biased in favour of certain developers and landowners who had timely access to the housing minister’s chief of staff,” the auditor general told reporters".

The Ford administration had agreed to comply with the vast majority of recommendations made in the report by the Auditor, including on fully informed decision-making on significant issues and on reducing "the risk of the appearance of conflict of interest" (links below).

Despite this curious chronology of events, the climate crisis, and the legal possibility of Lobbying in Canada, we now have to face Bill 5:
a bill that would reportedly repeal Ontario’s Endangered Species Act.
Really?
