Canada's already in a climate crisis, and this bill would just exacerbate the problem. The endangered species act and species conservation act protects native and endemic species. For those that don't know endemic species are plants and animals that are key to ecosystem survival. Many of these animals and plants exist in the Green Belt and these two acts were created to ensure the stability of our natural environment in this province.
It truly saddens me to see the Ontario government looking only at the short term, a good government makes decisions that benefit the whole future not just a possible short economic gain. We have seen in the past that building more infrastructure and housing does not always amount to economic gain in this province and I would like the government to think more clearly about it's decisions in the future.
I am a young Ontarian resident, 22 and about to graduate. I don't want a home in an area of our province which is key to preserving the environment. I wish the government to look elsewhere to help the future of Ontario like the fact that teachers and healthcare workers are at an all time low in this province. Why hasn't the government put any incentives in for those workers to come and work in this province? I want a government who is going to think far in the future, into MY future not just their short 4 year term future.
If you want to build more homes stop building in the GTA, build homes in Ottawa or London or Windsor where there can be positive growth WITHOUT ruining our environment.
