I oppose bill 5. I want stronger environmental protections and the protection of endangered species. I oppose shortcuts for industry. I oppose overriding the law in special economic zones. We have to think about who this benefits in the short and long-term. This doesn’t mean necessarily more development to help Canadians - it means they can more easily complete an online form rather than undergo the existing more fulsome permit process, making developers lives easier in the short-term for long term loss of protected habitats and the species that live in them. This bill directly conflicts with any recognition of reconciliation by curtailing consultation with Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and this short public consultation window. It also uses fear mongering, citing Bill 5 as enabling the economic boom necessary during this tariff period - the Ford government has already been able to destroy the Science Centre, revamp Ontario place to a luxury spa, and fund development on Ontarios greenlands - we have given enough to help developers this bill is going too far and is far too nonspecific, prioritizing development > environment every single time. I hope it does not see its way through and the government is not able to take advantage of this time to quietly push this in with this limited consultation window and publicity.
