I strongly oppose Bill 5, the Protect Ontario by unleashing Our Economy Act.
Repeal of the Endangered Species Act with unenforceable measures to replace it will result in further decline of species at risk. All life is connected and is required to keep nature in balance, including human life.
The creation of “special economic zones” would allow approval of major development projects without proper environmental assessment, public input, or Indigenous consultation. Such action would undermine transparency, accountability, and Indigenous rights and treaties.
I heartily encourage you to withdraw Bill 5 and instead work with environmental experts, Indigenous leaders and the public whom the government is responsible to serve to strengthen - not dismantle- our environmental protection.
