As a young person who has lived in Ontario her entire life and loves the rich environmental landscape and unique species our beautiful province is home to, these proposed changes are horrifying. The government should focus on changes that protect our environment while building sustainable housing options, not those that prioritize quick, cheap builds that don't truly benefit Ontarians. This proposal is a slap in the face to younger generations who want a beautiful province to enjoy for decades to come. Not to mention how incredibly offensive this is to the Indigenous communities that stand to be impacted by these changes and who remain our strongest advocates for environmental stewardship. This proposal disgusts me and changes like this are why I am strongly considering leaving Ontario all altogether and moving somewhere where my provincial government actually values the environment and respects indigenous people whose ancestral lands we still live on.
