I oppose Bill 5 because of the harm it will do to our protected and endangered species. We need public oversight on developments, since Doug Ford’s government cannot be trusted to treat our land ethically and responsibly (Green Belt Scandal, Ontario Place Redevelopment). Our neighbourhoods are currently overrun with coyotes because of the ecological damage Ford has allowed in Ontario Place, with residents dogs being attacked because of the lack of ecological considerations when clear cutting the land. They killed over 850 trees in the middle of the night to line his cronies pockets when the developers of this spa have less than 1 million euros in liquidity and will likely fail. There was no ecological assessment done for either Ontario Place or the Green Belt rezoning, or proper due diligence in vetting developers like Therme Group’s financials, who fraudulently claimed they owned 5 spas which they do not. This spa will cost each Ontario resident $400, when it will not open for free to the public like Ontario Place was. Thus showing the Ontario government cannot be trusted to bypass regulations for land developments without public oversight and that this Bill will actively harm Ontario’s ecology based on the Ford government’s lack of environmental impact studies done with Ontario Place and the Green Belt and without proper oversight and accountability of the developers selected.
