I am writing to express deep concern about Bill 5 and your government’s continued efforts to dismantle Ontario’s environmental safeguards. Fast-tracking major infrastructure projects without proper environmental assessments or Indigenous consultation is irresponsible and dangerous.

Environmental and worker protections are not “red tape.” They’re critical for a healthy, resilient economy and a thriving democracy.

Bill 5 would strip away decades of environmental protections — giving government sweeping powers to push through projects without proper oversight.

This bill isn’t about economic growth. It’s about cutting corners and sidelining the community voices and the places we love.

If passed, Bill 5 would allow Ford to bypass the Greenbelt Act, and make it easier for destructive developments to move ahead without full environmental assessments or meaningful public input. It weakens Indigenous consultation, threatens our water sources, and jeopardizes local farmland and wildlife.

When environmental protections are treated like red tape — communities suffer, and natural spaces disappear.

Ontario deserves better. We can grow our economy and build responsibly — without sacrificing the places and people we care about most.

I urge you to reverse course on Bill 5. Protect Ontario’s environment. Respect Indigenous rights and community voices. And build responsibly, with the long-term well-being of this province in mind.
