I oppose bill 5 strongly. We need stronger environmental protections for endangered species. Ontario has a rich amount of biodiversity, it's plants and animals need to be protected. I vehemently oppose shortcuts for industries and demand stronger public oversight. There is a specific amendment in bill 5 which I find particularly concerning: "Narrowing the definition of habitat so that the definition excludes a species’ habitat for feeding or migration" - this makes absolutely no sense. Feeding and migration are ESSENTIAL parts of a species life cycle, and if interrupted by corporate greed, those species cannot thrive and survive. Ontario is an incredibly important pathway for bird migration in spring and summer, to ignore feeding and migration is foolish. This bill amounts to a rejection of scientifically sound and globally agreed international protection approaches and bowing down to "special economic zones" instead. Frankly, this is irresponsible and short sighted, Doug Ford should be ashamed. Do better.
