The magnitude of the destruction of the world's biodiversity cannot be denied, and this process, known now as "The 6th Extinction" is totally the result of human activity.
For this reason, I am opposed to any weakening of our resolve to mitigate this damage and this proposal, known as Bill 5 of the Ontario government falls squarely in this category.
World Human Population is now 8 billion and rising, and no doubt there is a crisis in housing, food and infrastructure shortage and gross inequality in their availability, most notably in clean energy, the shortage of which is already causing mass extinction through global warming (please note the near total destruction of the worlds ocean reefs).
The only solution lies in 1) increased urbanization (with easily accessible natural recreational environments) as opposed to increased land development, 2) increased mass transit infrastructure, 3) decreased dependance upon fossil fuel consumption with increased solar and other clean energy infrastructure, 4) increase in available local food supply with decreased land development (ie greenhouse growing), and 5) continued decline of world birth rates, especially with emphasis on third world support for women's rights and family planning supports to ensure every child is a wanted child.
In summary, we need all the emphasis and "people input" possible to protect our environment and land use, and this proposal should be withdrawn.
