I’m opposed to these new proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act (2007).
Indigenous populations should reserve the right to make decisions on the lands they have stewarded for time immemorial. Not only this, but all species - endangered or not - should be prioritized over expediting privatized organizations need for profit. Ontario should be standing firm and supporting legislation that strongly protects the lands on which we live while simultaneously valuing guidance from Indigenous communities. This is particularly true in relation to already broken treaties and unceded territory. These proposed alterations will not only be dismissing the importance of preserving our wildlife, but are actively working against supposed efforts in reconciliation.
